Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, signed a €150 million loan agreement with the European Investment Bank for the Moldova Roads IV Project. The money will be used to repair and modernize over 150 km of roads and to carry out feasibility studies for other sections, IPN reports.
The agreement was signed in the name of the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the sidelines of the Eastern Partnership Summit, in the presence of President Maia Sandu.
“We secured concrete financing for good roads from our European partners that help us to develop the infrastructure network and connectivity with long-term benefits for local communities and for business entities that will be able to transport freight faster and more efficiently,” stated Nicu Popescu,
In Brussels, there were also assigned the documents confirming the conclusion of the agreements needed for implementing the Moldovan Energy Efficiency Project. Based on the signed documents, Moldova will receive a sovereign loan of €30 million from the EBRD will be co-financed by a €30 million loan from the EIB and an investment grant of €2.8 million from the EU’s Neighborhood Investment Platform and from the Eastern Partnership Technical Assistance Trust Fund. The money will be used to rehabilitate public institutions of national and local importance, such as hospitals, kindergartens and schools.
