Representatives of 15 women's non-governmental organizations in southern and northern Moldova will benefit from legal training offered by the public association Europa Time within the framework of the project “Association of Women Lawyers in Support to Women's NGOs”, Info-Prim Neo reports. Europa Time president Nadejda Macari has told a news conference on Tuesday that the project aims to inform the members and beneficiaries of these associations – socially vulnerable women and their children – on their rights. “These trainings are needed because we know that poor knowledge of one's rights is exactly what leads to inequity in court as well as outside of it, and this affects the social, familial, professional, and financial status of the women in Moldova”, said Nadejda Macari. According to her, the most frequent legal problems faced by the women are related to divorce matters, child custody and property rights. “Because of the precarious financial situation, after divorce, some women are forced to share a home with their former husbands”, she said. Nadejda Macari presented to the reporters a guidebook titled “Legal Solutions for Vulnerable Women and Children”, which explains them their rights and how these rights can be implemented. The 4,000 copies of the guidebook are meant to introduce women's NGOs staff to the law, as most of them lack a legal professional who could offer specific assistance to the beneficiaries of these organizations, explained Nadejda Macari. The guidebook will be distributed during a series of seminars to be held in southern and northern Moldova. The $25,000 project “Association of Women Lawyers in Support to Women's NGOs”, which is due to run until the end of the year, is funded by the Moldovan representative office of the American Bar Association/ Rule of the Law Initiative (ABA/ROLI), through USAID.
