Fifteen employees of the General Border Police Inspectorate are investigated in a case of corruption that was started on June 23 based on operational information. It refers to 60 episodes, 38 of which are cases of taking bribe, while the rest are contraventions, IPN reports.
According to the National Anticorruption Center, it was determined that employees of the Borer Police Sector “Chisinau International Airport” illegally obtained €50 to €100 from passengers who intended to leave the country and who were suspected of presenting false PCR COVID-19 test results.
The Borer Police employees also extorted money from Moldovans and foreigners who planned to leave the Republic of Moldova through the Chisinau International Airport for not drawing up reports on the violation of the self-isolation regime against them.
Fifteen border police officers are now investigated as suspects. Thirteen of them were detained and will be remanded in custody. They face up to ten years in jail and ban on holding public posts during a period of up to ten years for passive corruption.
