More than 1,000 hip and knee endoprosthesis operations were performed last year with financing from the mandatory health insurance funds. This is by 154 operations more than in 2016. Almost 16 million lei was allocated for the treated cases, the National Health Insurance Company has said.
The sum is by 3 million lei higher compared with 2016. Contracts with nine medical institutions – seven public and two private ones - were signed for performing the given surgeries.
In a response to an inquiry made by IPN News Agency, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection said that a special commission set up at the Emergency Medicine Institute deals with patients who need expensive treatment, including those who need shoulder, hip and knee endoprosthesis operations. The patients with referrals from the orthopedist-traumatologist submit the file to the given commission and are put on the waiting list.
The waiting lists are reviewed at least once a year to exclude the persons who died, left or refused treatment or received this outside the waiting list for money. The waiting list now includes 14,000 persons who need hip and knee endoprosthesis surgery.
