A National Army team is preparing the removal of about 140 tonnes of solid pesticides stored in the districts of Anenii Noi and Ialoveni, IPN reports, quoting a communiqué from the National Army.

The pesticides will be taken to the Polish town Dabrowa Gornicza, where they will be destroyed by burning, by December 21.

As many as 1,270 tonnes of solid pesticides from 20 districts, stored in 16 centralized depots, are destroyed within the final phase of the NATO Partnership for Peace Trust Fund project to destroy pesticides and dangerous chemicals in the Republic of Moldova that was launched on July 9.

A sum of €2.2 million was collected for implementing the final phase of the project, through the NATO/PfP Trust Fund. Of this sum, €325,000 represents Moldova’s contribution, while the rest was donated by Romania, Belgium, Norway, Ireland, the Czech Republic, Turkey, Bulgaria, Luxemburg, Estonia, Finland, and Lithuania.

A number of 221 tonnes of toxic substances have been removed until now from Moldova’s territory, from the districts of Taraclia and Basarabeasca. The solid pesticides are to be taken away by next May.
