14-year-old drowns in Ghidighici lake

A 14-year-old girl from Causeni drowned in the lake in Ghidighici on Sunday, August 15. She was taken by a rip current and could not be saved, Emergencies Service spokeswoman Dorina Cruc has told Info-Prim Neo. The girl was resting on the right bank of the lake together with her parents. She went to swim and did not return. Her body was found by frogmen this morning, at about 8.30. A 21-year-old man drowned in a lake in Lozova village of Straseni district. His body was recovered three hours later. A man aged 53 was taken by currents when he was fishing in the Nistru River, not far from Soroca town. His body was recovered soon afterward. Five Mercedes-Benz Sprinter minibuses parked on Valea Bykului St in Chisinau caught fire simultaneously. Until the firefighters arrived, the fire destroyed completely three units of transport. Two minibuses were 50% damaged. An investigation is underway. According to statistics, 161 persons, 28 of whom children, have drowned in Moldova's waters this year. A number of 105 persons, including a child, have been killed in fires.
