Fourteen students of the Orhei Theoretical Lyceum “Onisifor Ghibu” were taken to the hospital with poisoning. It was preliminarily determined that someone sprayed teargas on the institution’s hall.
Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the Orhei Police Inspectorate Elena Băetrău said the police were alerted by an employee of the lyceum at about 11:30pm. Police officers travelled to the scene and the lyceum’s principal was instructed over the phone how to act and how to organize the evacuation of the persons from the building.
The police determined that a number of students who were on the stairs of a hall in the central block of the lyceum during the break suffered breathing difficulties and discomfort in the neck. A number of students needed medical assistance.
Spokeswoman for the Orhei District Hospital Cristina Onila has told IPN that the 14 patients brought to the medical institution are aged between 13 and 17. Most probably, they got poisoned by an unknown substance. Their state is medium grave.
Update /5:20pm/ “After examining the 14 patients taken to the hospital with poisoning, seven were admitted to the pediatric unit in a medium grave state, while the other seven were discharged and will receive treatment at home, under the supervision of the family doctor. The patients’ life is out of any danger,” said Cristina Onila.
The lyceum’s director Ana Ceban refused to discuss this case with IPN’s reporter, invoking the secrecy of the police inquiry.
