Fourteen persons are suspected of passive corruption and abuse of power in the case of the doctors who were arrested for applying a scheme to illegally collect money from patients. Of the 14 persons, seven are held in the remand prisons of the National Anticorruption Center and the police for 72 hours. Even if they made statements for the prosecution bodies, only one of the suspects accepted blame, IPN reports, with reference to a common press release of the National Anticorruption Center and the Prosecutor General’s Office.
Anticorruption prosecutors on July 31 are to charge the seven arrested persons and to later request the court to issue warrants for their arrest for a period of 30 days.
As a result of searches carried out one day earlier, there were seized sums of money in different currencies assessed at 7 million lei found at the offices and homes of some of doctors and also in safe deposit boxes at commercial banks in Chisinau. Prosecutors will analyze the collected evidence and will take a decision about the sequestration of the money.
The 14 persons are investigated for abuse of power and passive corruption and for complicity in the two offices. The given offenses carry a penalty of up to ten years in jail, a ban on holding particular public posts and performing particular activities for a period of up to ten years and a fine of at most 400,000 lei.
