In 2010, traffic officers pulled over 1,300 drunk drivers, Traffic Police spokesmanTudor Capatana told Info-Prim Neo. Drivers with an amount of alcohol higher that 0.8 milligrams per 1 liter of blood risk being deprived of their license for 5 years and receiving a 3,000 lei fine. If the breathalyzer result is lower, the fine can be reduced to 1,500 lei and the license suspended for 3 years. According to global statistics, 25-35% of the accidents resulting in deaths are caused by drunk driving. This year, there were registered 61 traffic accidents in Moldova caused by drunk drivers, which killed 14 people and injured 86 other.
