A group of 14 MPs of the Party of Communists (PCRM), among whom the leader of the party’s parliamentary group Violeta Ivanov, announced their defection from the group and the party and the creation of the Social-Democratic Party “For Moldova” in a news conference at IPN.

Violeta Ivanov said the 14 lawmakers refuse to take part in the political games of the PCRM’s administration, disagree with the party’s inaction and want the socioeconomic crisis in the country to be overcome. There is neither power, nor opposition or executive and parliamentary majority in Moldova now and the politicians in such conditions must pursue one objective – to overcome the crisis.

MP Vladimir Vitiuc said the new platform can help unite society, strengthen the statehood, fortify the permanent status of neutrality of Moldova and overcome the serious situation faced now by the country.

Lawmaker Anatolie Zagorodnyi said the requests made by the local organizations of the PCRM, which consider that the party should take an active part in the solving of the country’s problems, were transmitted to the party’s leadership, but chairman Vladimir Voronin ignored them.

Artur Reshetnikov called on the lawmakers who want the socioeconomic crisis in the country to be overcome to join the Platform “For Moldova” because they should all become involved given that things in the country are worsening.

In the last year’s parliamentary elections, the PCRM won 21 seats.  Left the party Violeta Ivanov, Victor Mandru, Alexandr Bannicov, Boris Golovin, Anatolie Gorila, Elena Gudumac, Corneliu Mihalache,  Petru Porcescu, Artur Reshetnikov, Sergiu Stati, Vladimir Vitiuc, Igor Vremea, and Anatolie Zagorodnyi, Galina Balmos.

The Communist parliamentary group now includes seven lawmakers, namely Vladimir Voronin, Elena Bondarenko, Vasilii Panciuc, Oxana Domenti, Maria Postoiko, Oleg Reidman, and Inna Supac.
