A number of 139 settlements in 16 districts remained disconnected from the power supply on Monday morning. The southern districts were the worst hit. According to Premier Energy Distribution, the power restoration works are hampered by the snowy roads that impede access to electrical installations, IPN reports.

The supplier said that a number of its vehicles got stuck in snowdrifts last night. Two Ural all-wheel drive off-road trucks of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, which tried to tow those vehicles away, also remained blocked. The high winds blowing in gusts continue to cause impediments to the works to restore the broken cables and other faults in overhead power lines.

Controlled disconnections from the system are performed to secure the places where damaged cables were reported. Nevertheless, 63 localities were reconnected to the power supply at night. The works go on. Owing to disruptions to the installations of SA “Moldelectrica”, over 2,600 consumers cannot be reconnected to the power supply.

Premier Energy urges to strictly obey the electrical safety rules and to immediately notify the distribution operator on 022 43 11 11 if one sees downed or broken cables.

It had snowed heavily all over Moldova, primarily in the central and southern districts, since Saturday night and the high winds formed snowdrifts, blocking road sections. About 200 localities experienced power outages. A yellow and orange code warning for the period was issued. The State Weather Service extended the yellow code advisory for high winds until Monday noon. The wind is expected to intensify to 20 m/s.
