No less than 13,000 hectares of degraded land are to be converted into forested areas in five years, under the 2014-2018 National Afforestation Plan approved by the Government on Wednesday. The estimated cost of the action is 300 million lei, IPN reports.
According to a governmental press release, another environmental measure, approved as an amendment to the Law on Air Protection, makes it illegal to manufacture, import, sell or use in production construction materials containing asbestos, lead, arsenic and other substances recognized by international conventions as noxious.
In another measure, people employed in hazardous and particularly hazardous jobs as well as working in difficult or particularly difficult environments will get compensatory bonuses. In particular, employees at the National Regulatory Agency for Nuclear and Radiological Activity will get a bonus of 2.3% of the annual budget allocation.
