The first 13 owners of energy-vulnerable households in rural areas have signed contracts for the energy efficiency of their homes under the national program Fund for Energy Efficiency in the Residential Sector in Moldova (FEERM), with a budget of 1.4 billion lei. This year, 180 individual houses will be energy rehabilitated, IPN reports.
According to the National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED), the first projects will be implemented in localities in the Calarasi, Straseni and Telenesti districts. For all 180 households included in the pilot project, the European Union has allocated €1 million.
"This also means lower bills for the population and a more competitive economy. At the same time, these investments will create new jobs and create new economic opportunities," said Carolina Novac, secretary of state at the energy ministry.
"This is the first time that the population of the Republic of Moldova benefits from direct access to government financing programs for energy efficiency," said Ion Muntean, director of CNED.
The program of the project "Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy in the Republic of Moldova" is financed by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the European Union and Norway, and implemented by the German Agency for International Cooperation.
