The wooded areas in Moldova will be extended by 12,000 hectares. In 2013-2018, trees will be planted on the areas of land that no longer can be used as farmland, at a cost of 277 million lei. A relevant plan of action was submitted to the Government for approval, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from “Moldsilva” Agency, the local public authorities identified the areas that will be afforested. One of the conditions was for the soil bonity not to exceed 40 points. There will be afforested mainly the degrading areas.
The projects will be implemented with money from the state budget, the National Ecological Fund, and from foreign donations. The largest areas that will be afforested are located in the districts of Falesti, Glodeni, Taraclia, Telenesti, and Ungheni.
The forests in Moldova occupy 462,700 hectares or 13.7% of the country’s territory.
