According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, 12% of young people decide not to continue their studies after completing lower secondary education. Another 45% continue their education in high schools, 27% opt for post-secondary technical vocational education, and 16% choose secondary technical vocational education, IPN reports.
The same data shows that the number of primary and secondary general education institutions is decreasing, from 1,255 institutions in the 2019-2020 school year to 1,201 in the 2023-2024 school year.
In the 2023-2024 school year, 334,400 students were enrolled in these institutions, a decrease from the previous year, when the number was 336,700.
In the 2023-2024 school year, 9,100 children with special educational needs attended school, with 94% attending general education institutions and 6% attending special education institutions.
The highest student-to-teacher ratio in primary and secondary general education in the 2023-2024 school year was recorded in the districts of Straseni, Ialoveni, and in the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti.
