Twelve contenders for the mayor's seat in Chisinau filed their candidacy with Chisinau constituency electoral council on the last day. The Council has seven days to make the decision whether to register or not the candidates in the electoral competition, IPN reports.

Among those who submitted the files on the last day is the PPDA leader Andrei Năstase, Minister of Internal Affairs, elected but unconfirmed mayor, after the new local elections last year. He told journalists that the decision to repeatedly run for the position of mayor of Chisinau belongs to the inhabitants of the city. Nastase is confident that "last year’s injustice will be avenged by a more massive vote this year." He also said he does not give up the Ministry of Internal Affairs, because it does not belong to him. According to him, the Ministry of Internal Affairs is a ministry that must deal with people and protect their rights and freedoms, regardless of who is in charge of the institution.

Vlad Turcanu, the contender for the position of mayor on the part of the Romanian Popular Party (PPR), decided to file his candidacy "to bring Chisinau into the 21st century". Also, Vlad Turcanu says it is a decision taken due to the danger that the city could be seized by the Socialists. In the elections, the candidate of the PPR, is counting on the vote of those who have a Romanian vision for Chisinau. Asked about the attitude towards other Unionist candidates who announced their intention to run or were already registered, Vlad Turcanu noted that "the fact that they are parties with similar Romanian rhetoric does not mean that the potential declared by them is real. "

Former interim mayor Ruslan Codreanu, the only independent candidate, submitted to the Council over 10 thousand signatures from supporters. Codreanu states that the results he obtained for one year, during his term as acting general mayor, will be the best argument for people to vote. "I think that in a short period we have shown how the city must be managed, the city needs a manager. I know what this city is experiencing and I am sure we will succeed," Ruslan Codreanu said.

Alexandru Fetescu, from the Liberal Democratic Party, believes that the heavy traffic, the complicated ecological state of the Bâc river, but also the lack of waste management are the most serious issues of the city. The qualities that he has accumulated over time will enable him to show through deeds that he is worthy of the position of mayor, the contender specified.

September 19 was the last day for submitting the candidates' files for the position of local councillor or for the position of mayor in the general local elections of October 20, 2019. In Chisinau, 21 candidates submitted their files for mayoralty.
