A total 1,179 refugee children from Ukraine are enrolled in 227 general education institutions in Moldova. Another 708 children attend the 222 kindergartens offered for Ukrainian refugees.
The update was presented to the Delegation of the Ad Hoc Committee on Migration of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, hosted by the Ministry of Education and Research.
“The Ministry of Education and Research, together with (Moldova’s) development partners, is making every effort to provide high-standard- education and opportunities to fit into society in a friendly environment for all children from Ukrainian refugee families”, said Adriana Cazacu, state secretary at the Ministry.
With the support of Moldova’s development partners, funds were allocated to provide refugee children with school meals. In addition, efforts were made to organize graduation and admission exams online, create conditions for summer camps and extracurricular activities, and offer Romanian courses and consultations with therapists.
