Eleventh antihail rocket points were built in a number of villages in Cantemir district at a cost of over 7 million lei, which was allocated from the state budget. These will enable to extend the antihail protection area to almost 150,000 hectares, IPN has learned from the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment.
Only 10% of the areas protected by hail can be affected. Since 1999, Cahul and Cantemir districts hadn’t enjoyed antihail protection and considerable losses were annually sustained as a result.
Contacted by IPN, Vasile Sarban, acting division head at the Ministry, said the antihail rocket points that were recently put up protect both Cantemir district and Cahul district. Currently, the antihail system covers 90% of the country’s territory.
