Some 10.7% of the population of the Republic of Moldova got the first COVID-19 vaccine dose, while 3.3% got both of the shots. Also, 363 persons or 0.1% of those immunized contracted the novel coronavirus, IPN reports.
Ninel Revenco, coordinator of the national immunization campaign, told a news conference that the signs of disease appeared in 12 days of the administration of the vaccine, while the antibodies develop in two weeks of the administration of the second shot. The population should continue wearing masks after vaccination so as to avoid the risk of becoming infected.
According to Ninel Revenco, the vaccine certificates issued in the Republic of Moldova are now recognized in Ukraine and Hungary, but talks on the issue are being held with more states.
Angela Paraschiv, head of the Epidemiology Department of “Nicolae Testemiţanu” State University of Medicine and Pharmacy, said the highest vaccination rate was reported among health workers: 82% of them were immunized with the first dose, while 68% with both of the doses. About 70% of the vaccinated persons are aged 50 and over.
The epidemiologist noted the Republic of Moldova does not have equipment to determine the Indian COVID-19 variant. There is a risk that this strain will affect Moldova too as 23 cases of infection have been recorded recently. The rise in the number of cases of COVID-19 will be an indicator that this strain got to the Republic of Moldova. To avoid infection, including with the new variants of the novel coronavirus, it is important to continue the vaccination process.
