As many as 100,000 masks and 5,000 protective suits for doctors of Moldova were brought by a plane from Hungary on April 28. According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó, Hungary decided to provide this aid as it knows that the protection of doctors and health personnel is of major importance for the population, IPN reports.

In a press briefing held alongside Prime Minister Ion Chicu, the Hungarian official said he approves of the Moldovan government’s policy that is based on the national feeling, as Hungary’s policy is. Hungary supports Moldova on the path of European integration and will demand that the support promised by the EU should be provided as soon as possible.

For his part, Premier Chicu appreciated the support provided in the form of protective equipment for doctors and said that this will be distributed to healthcare facilities immediately. He noted that Moldova has one of the lowest COVID-19 death rates in the region and this implicitly attests to the professionalism of doctors. He welcomed the efforts made by the two countries to keep the pandemic under control.

Ion Chicu thanked Hungary for the support provided to Moldova in its European integration efforts. In the course of May, Hungary will delegate two consultants in public finance management and agriculture to work in Moldova. Also, it was agreed that Hungary will offer €100 million in support of the business community of Moldova.
