100,000 lei to be offered to families of healthcare workers who succumb to COVID-19

The state will provide a one-off allowance of 100,000 lei when a healthcare worker dies from COVID-19. A relevant amendment to the 2021 budgetary-fiscal policy was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Pușcuța, Minister of Finance, said this allowance will be paid from the Government’s Reserve Fund for 2021. The decision will have a retroactive effect. This way, the allowance of 100,000 lei will be paid to the families of the healthcare workers who have died from COVID-19 since March 17, 2020.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, 59 healthcare workers succumbed to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

The Cabinet also approved the allocation of over 60 million lei for paying the one-off allowance of 16,000 lei to public sector employees who contracted the novel coronavirus while on the job.
