A tricolor that will be 1 kilometer long will be spread from the monument to Ruler Stephan the Great in Chisinau on December 1 on the occasion of the National Day of Romania. The event, organized by the association “Honor, Dignity and Homeland” (ODIP), will be held to mark the 98th anniversary of the Great Union of 1918.
ODIP head Vlad Biletski, in a news conference at IPN, said that for the first time in Moldova’s history, they will stretch such a long tricolor on which they have worked for almost three months. The longest tricolor spread so far was 300 meters long. The event will also be an exam for the unionists, who will show that no matter who the President is, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova feel Romanians and want the Union with Romania. People of different political orientations are invited to come with a tricolor and join the unionists on December 1. Those who do not have a tricolor will receive one free. The promotion of the unionist values will continue by setting up banners in Chisinau municipality and by other activities. This way they want unionism and patriotism to become fashionable.
After the event, the huge tricolor will be cut into prices of 10 meters each and will be donated to national schools and lyceums so that each of the education institutions hoists the historical tricolor on April 27, when it is celebrated the National Flag Day.
Nicolae Dabija, chairman of the Movement “Sfatul Tarii 2”, congratulated beforehand the Romanians everywhere on the Great Union Day, saying that under a decision taken by the Government of Romania in 2005, this day is the National Day of all the Romanians. “During the previous years, the politicians redefined the relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania as: one nation, two countries, two states. “Sfatul Tarii 2” has a different slogan that we hope will be embraced by the politicians from both sides of the Prut: one people, one country, one state,” said Nicolae Dabija.
He noted that the Movement “Sfatul Tarii 2” makes common cause with ODIP and called upon all those who feel Romanians to come to the Great National Assembly Square on December 1 to show that Igor Dodon cannot stop the union.
The Movement’s first deputy chairman Constantin Codreanu said that by the event planned for September 1, the unionists want to transmit a very clear message – in the Republic of Moldova, nothing changes in the union process even if a person like Igor Dodon, who comes to struggle against unionism, was elected President. He invited the people to a service on December 1 to show gratitude to the priests of the Bessarabian Metropolitan Church, who do not become involved in politics, unlike those of the Moldovan Metropolitan Church, ‘which became a propaganda instrument’.
“I invite you to the central square of Chisinau on December 1 to tell Igor Dodon that he is not our President and he will not be able to stop the reunification process,” said Constantin Codreanu.
“Sfatul Tarii 2” deputy chairman Anatolie Caraman, who heads the Association of War Veterans “Tiras-Tighina”, called upon the veterans to join in on December 1, saying it is an event to commemorate those who sacrificed themselves for the reunification.
Another deputy chairman Genadie Cosovan urged the people to come to central Chisinau and take part in the spread of the tricolor alongside the members of ODIP, calling on those who cannot travel to Chisinau to stage similar events in their settlements.
The event to spread the tricolor starts at 1pm.
