1% inflation in April

Consumer prices in March 2007 against April increased by 1.0%, including: foodstuff products by 2.0%, non-food products by 0.5%, services rendered to population – 0.4%. During the reported period, the increase in price was influenced by the price hikes of several foodstuff products: fresh fish – by 5.7%, eggs – by 5.4%, pork – by 3.0%, fresh vegetables – by 11.8% (including: fresh cabbage - by 59.0%, carrots – by 24.3% and onion – by 13.2%) and bread – by 2.3%. In what concerns non-food products, price increases were registered in the case of the construction materials by 1.4% (including bricks – by 2.4%), ready-made clothes – by 1.2% and drugs – by 1.0%. Overall, the majority of goods and services provided to the population had the same prices as in March 2007. Price cuts in April were registered at hothouse cucumber – by 10.1%, hothouse tomatoes – by 4.7%, beans – by 5.7% and feta – by 1%. In January-April 2007, the rate of inflation constituted 3.0% against the same period last year.
