A 30-year-old police officer from Hancesti was sentenced to five years and a month in jail for misuse of power, use of violence and violation of domicile, IPN reports.
According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in February 2010 the policeman hit a man for several times for the reason that he didn’t fulfill his parental obligations. In a year, in the absence of an order and authorization, the police officer entered the house of several persons in order to find a man who was suspected of ill-treating his wife. The same day, the policeman took the suspect to the police station, where he punched and kicked him, casing him bodily injuries.
Now the culprit does not work in the police force and is wanted because he avoids the prosecution bodies. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
Contacted by IPN, Ion Caracuian, chief prosecutor of the Torture Combating Division, said that an employee of the Department of Penitentiary Institutions last year was sentenced to jail for abuse of power and use of violence. On January 1, 2013, there were 21 criminal cases started over abuse of power and use of violence. The judgments in these cases weren’t yet passed.
