PLDM against legislative initiative restricting access to particular websites

The Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) will not support the legislative initiative of the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO), which restricts access to particular websites. The party’s leader Vlad Filat told a news conference that the manipulation and lie cannot be stopped by bans, IPN reports.

Vlad Filat said that the readers in Moldova are manipulated and there are quoted inexistent sources, but the problem will not be solved by imposing restrictions, as the PGO suggested. He underlined that the PLDM will not vote for this legislative initiative.

Asked by the journalists about the arrest of activist Fiodor Ghelici, who is accused of trafficking in persons, the leader of the PLDM said the criminals must be jailed. “All the Moldovan people must understand that everyone is punished for illegalities. Trafficking in human beings is a serious offense that must be condemned not only vehemently, but also very severely. He should answer for his deeds and should not look for persons to blame,” stated Vlad Filat. The members of the NGO headed by Fiodor Ghelici and his relatives assert that the activist is the victim of political orders.
