Authorities say there will be no more flooding events at the Railway Station in Chisinau. On Thursday, July 19, a new rain sewage network was opened to reduce the floods caused by heavy rainfalls, Info-Prim Neo reports. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca declared that the realization of this project was just part of the work that needs be done in the city, but it was still a great result because it got the city rid of an annoying problem. “We don’t rule out that a storm might be too much for the drainage network to handle, but a storm is a force majeure. However, heavy rainfalls won’t affect this area of Chisinau anymore”, he said. EU delegation head Dirk Schuebel declared that the project was an important realization and a success for the Chisinau Municipality. The project “Rainwater sewage. Promoting and implementing innovative actions of climate change” is financed by the European Union within the Program “Non-state actors and local authorities in development”. The project is implemented by the Chisinau City Hall in partnership with the Odessa City Hall over 30 months (December 2009-June 2012). The total budget is €900,000 and Chisinau’s part is €737,147.
