The number of new trolleybuses in Chisinau will be doubled this year, after these are assembled. The Chisinau administration and representatives of the Belarusian company Belkommunmash signed an agreement to this effect at the head office of the Electric Transport Company on May 5, IPN reports.
Until now the new trolleybuses were 85% assembled in Minsk, while the rest of the works were performed in Chisinau. Now that the accord was signed, more parts of national producers will be used to assemble trolleybuses. Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said the partners from Belarus show greater openness to Chisinau and accepted using the electronic trolleybus management system made in Moldova in the assembly works. The signing of the accord represents a new stage because the Chisinau Electric Transport Company will become more involved in the process of renovating its trolleybuses.
The Company’s director Gheorghe Morgoci said that 20 trolleybuses were to be assembled this year, but the figure will be ultimately doubled. A trolleybus costs up to €151,000, but, if parts made in Moldova start to be used, the price will decrease by €2,000.
The first new trolleybuses were brought to Chisinau in 2012. When the 40 trolleybuses are assembled, the number of new trolleybuses running on the streets of Chisinau will rise to 90.
