The persons who held the post of Head of State, Speaker of Parliament or Prime Minister and were banned from leaving the place of residence by a competent body will not have the right to hold biometric passports. The ban also refers to cases of conviction for the commission of offenses by court judgment. The provisions are contained in a bill to amend the Law on Identification Papers in the National Passports System, which was approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.
The formula was identified by the executive following a legislative initiative submitted by MPs, who proposed withdrawing the diplomatic passports of the Heads of State, Speakers of Parliament or Prime Ministers who were dismissed for violating the Constitution.
Minister of Justice Vladimir Cebotari said such a formula was agreed after studying the practice of a number of European states.
The Cabinet proposed extending this norm so that it covered nor only the former Presidents, Premiers and Speakers, but also their husbands/wives.
