The National Integrity Commission has marked six months of work. In the period, it received 87,000 statements and initiated 38 inspections. Expert of the Center for the Prevention and Analysis of Corruption A Mariana Kalughin said the number of initiated inspections is more than modest, IPN reports.
The Commission in six months drew up 328 reports on the non-submission of the income and property statements or the interest statements within the required term. The information is contained in the Commission’s report for the first half of this year, on which Mariana Kalughin commented on the online platform about the integrity of persons with public posts “moldovacurata.md”.
The expert said the low number of inspections is due to the reduced inspection capacities and insufficient personnel. Under the regulations governing the work of the National Integrity Commission, obligatory inspections are started only when the statement is not submitted within 30 workdays of the expiration of the set term. In the other cases, the Commission is not limited in its work.
According to Mariana Kalughin, the verification of the authenticity of the information in the statements should be obligatory. The Commission can do this through a computerized program or through the agency of persons responsible for collecting statements. Otherwise, the mechanism of submitting statements by the public agents does not have a preventive effect. This mechanism will not be treated seriously if the information in the statement is not verified.
