Multidisciplinary teams for preventing home accidents started to attend courses for becoming trainers. Thus, on July 1, 5 and 6, specialists responsible for health promotion and main specialists in mother and child assistance from the country’s districts are accumulating knowledge about the prevention of accidents to children within courses staged in Chisinau, IPN reports.
The trainers will pass on this information to family doctors and medical assistants within training seminars that will be held for the first time by local public health centers, based on an order made by the Ministry of Health.
The goal of the local training seminars is to enrich the medical personnel’s knowledge of risks of injury among children aged 0-5 and methods of preventing these so that they inform parents about this. There will be presented a new mechanism for supplying family doctors’ offices with informative materials, where the public health centers act as centers of information resources on child accident prevention.
REPEMOL communication consult Natalia Dinu, in the first session of the kind, said activities to inform parents about child accident prevention have been so far performed in an organized way only through communication campaigns. Now that the order 251-A was made, the coordination of health promotion activities aimed at preventing accidents involving children is the duty of the local public health centers and the primary medical assistance system. This is a significant measure that the state takes to step up the efforts to prevent accidents to children in a move to reduce mortality among the most vulnerable category, which is the children younger than five.
Natalia Silitrari, head of the health promotion and communication unit of the National Public Health Center, said that by such acts they take steps to create a mechanism to prevent accidents to children in the format of multidisciplinary team. “By launching these courses, we aim to combine the efforts of the Service for State Supervision of Public Health and Primary Medical Assistance so as to prevent accidents involving children, including traffic ones. It is imperatively needed to take these actions in concert at community level, by involving others players such as the local authorities, social workers and the police because the injuries in children are the third leading cause of death that can be prevented by regularly informing parents about the need to supervise the children,” she stated.
The courses are organized with the assistance of the REPEMOL (Regionalization of Pediatric Emergency and Intensive Care Service in the Republic of Moldova) Project, in partnership with the Ministry of Health.
