Liberal-Democrat MP Ion Butmalai accused his AIE colleagues of promoting their personal interests and obtaining the necessary votes for approving their legislative initiatives. The accusations were made on Tuesday, July 10, during the meeting of the legal commission on appointments and immunities, when the Liberal-Democrats came short of just one vote for their proposal to create an inquiry committee to investigate the crime situation in the country in 2011-2012. Ion Butmalai, one of the proposal’s authors, was angered that when the previous proposal had reached a similar stage, the missing vote was found and Ala Popescu was appointed Secretary General of Parliament. “That’s because she is the wedding sponsor of the Speaker. They insisted and found a vote”, fumed Ion Butmalai before walking out of the meeting. Ala Popescu was appointed Secretary General of Parliament by Speaker Marian Lupu and today, July 10, the legal commission on appointments and immunities approved her candidature, in accordance with the legislation.
