The Moldovan national football team finished last in Group H 2020 European Championship preliminaries. The Moldovan team lost the last match against Iceland, with a 1-2 score, at the Zimbru stadium in Chișinău.
The Nordic midfielder Birkir Bjarnason scored first in the 17th minute. Moldovan Nicolae Milinceanu evened the score in the 56th minute, by making the most of Sergiu Plătică's pass, scoring his first goal for the national team. In just 9 minutes, Icelandic Gylfi Sigurðsson, seven times Iceland's best footballer, scored the second goal for Iceland . Everton's midfielder could have scored twice, however, he failed to score the penalty shot in the 78th minute. Goalkeeper Alexei Koşelev masterfully parried the 11 meter shot.
Moldova finished the Euro 2020 preliminaries with three points, being defeated by Andorra, which accumulated four points. France and Turkey qualified in the final tournament.
