“Mircea Eliade” Lyceum teachers say money was collected as donations, not fees

The Foundation of the Chisinau Lyceum “Mircea Eliade” was established by three teachers, one of whom works at another education institution. The 11 members of the Foundation’s Board are parents who represent only 11 of the 30 classes of the lyceum. After two days of questioning at the National Anticorruption Center, no person assumed responsibility for disseminating notices to parents of the lyceum’s students, by which they are informed that they have to pay a sum of over 6,000 lei, IPN reports.

The National Anticorruption Center’s press officer Angela Starinschi said the questioned persons said the collected money were in fact donations, not tuition fees. The investigation into this case goes on.

Last week, parents wrote on social networking sites that they were told to pay 3,100 lei tuition fees and 3,000 lei into the lyceum’s Foundation. Two complaints about the collection of informal payments at the given lyceum were submitted to the Buiucani Prosecutor’s Office.
