Memorial complex to Moldovan solders that died in Afghanistan war to be erected in Chisinau

A memorial complex for the Moldovan solders that have died in Afghanistan war will be revealed in May in Rascani district of the capital. The first composition within the complex – “Mama indurerata” (The Grieving Mother) – was erected in 2004, while the construction of the second one - “Miscarea spre eternitate” (Closer to Eternity), started in 2005 and is completed in proportion of 70-80%. Architect Vasile Eremciuc says this represents four pillars on which a massive crown of thorns lies. It symbolises the pain of the solders that fought in Afghanistan. In the centre of the composition there is another composition – “Sfesnicul nemuririi” (The Candle of the Eternity), crowned with a tulip, sculpted in black granite. The composition is residing on a plateau of about 30 m in diameter, where the granite plates will be installed, and the names of the Moldovan solders that died in Afghanistan war will be engraved on them. In the square on Miron Costin street in Rascani district, where the complex is erected, there will be also built two fountains. The memorial complex will be illuminated during nighttime. As Vasile Eremciuc says, the money intended for the building of the memorial complex are allocated from the state budget. Three million lei have been disbursed so far.
