Moldova's Acting President Marian Lupu signed a decree to set up a national council for the reform of the legal system, which will be a consultative body consisting of representatives of the local public authorities and civil society, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a press briefing on Thursday, Marian Lupu said the council will coordinate public authorities' actions aimed at reforming the legal system, will monitor the initiatives regarding the work of the judiciary and present proposals over these initiatives, will analyze and promote the proposals submitted by representatives of civil society as regards the steps that must be taken to implement the reform of the legal system. “The council is designed to strengthen the joint efforts of the public authorities and representatives of civil society, aimed at formulating and implementing a common policy on the organization of the work of the judiciary. Besides, we aim to ensure a clear and transparent dialogue with society in promoting this very important reform,” said Marian Lupu. The council is composed of lawmakers, parliamentary commission heads, court presidents, prosecutors and lawyers as well as officials of the Ministry of the Interior, the Security and Information Service, the Center for Combating Corruption and Economic Crime and representatives of the most important nongovernmental organizations that are interested in promoting and implementing the reform in these areas. There will be also involved specialists who will provide the necessary assistance and consultancy to the council. The council will meet once a month. Extraordinary meetings will be held if need be. The decree signed on May 19 will come into force after it is published. Marian Lupu said the first meeting of the council may take place towards the end of this week. It will agree the council's tasks and plan of action.
