Lawmakers to consider VAT in agriculture and Parliament Regulations

On November 15, the legislative body will examine the bill to the restore the VAT of 8% in agriculture and on sugar. The lawmakers will also debate the amendments to the Parliament’s Regulations. Both of the initiatives were put forward by groups of MPs of the Pro-European Coalition, IPN reports.

The restoration of the VAT of 8% was repeatedly asked by the agricultural producers. According to them, the introduction of the standard rate of 20% on January 1, 2013 led to lower competitiveness of the Moldovan goods compared with the imported ones.

The bill with amendments to the Parliament’s Regulations caused disagreements between the parliamentary majority and the opposition. The latter said the changes are aimed at reducing it to silence. Under the amendments, it will be banned bringing loudspeakers into the assembly hall. A question must be formulated within one minute, while the breaks will last for at most one hour during a sitting. The speeches will last up to 5 minutes, while the MPs will be unable to propose other issues than those included in the agenda of the sitting. The authors said the bill is aimed at improving the work of Parliament.
