Latest rain caused damage of millions of lei in Chisinau municipality

The rain of the last few days caused damage of up to 10 million lei in the municipality of Chisinau. According to mayor Dorin Chirtoaca, the suburban settlements Durlesti and Truseni were the worst-hit. Many homes were flooded and roads damaged there, IPN reports.

“The volume of water exceeded the limit and it was an emergency situation. However, the municipality of Chisinau coped with it. The lake in “Valea Morilor” park played a very important role. It protected the districts of Buiucani and Rascani from floods. If that water hadn’t poured into the lake, it would have flooded a lot of streets,” Dorin Chirtoaca said in a press briefing after a meeting or the Commission for Emergencies.

According to preliminary data, 200 homes and almost 70 education institutions were flooded in Chisinau. Forty streets were covered in mud and more than 20,000 meters of roadway were damaged. Fifty trees were downed. The lakes in the municipality are practically all full of mud and need to be cleaned. Dorin Chirtoaca assured that measures will be taken to deal with the consequences and to restore the damaged streets.
