Kiev clashes claim 25 lives

The violent clashes in Kiev go on. The Ukrainian press reported that 25 people lost their lives, including protesters, police officers and a journalist. More than 350 persons needed medical care, while another over 240 were hospitalized, IPN reports.

According to the Ukrainian Health Minister, a journalist of the publication “Vesti” died in the hospital. Among those hurt are 79 police officers, five journalists, three minors and one MP who was beaten in the Officers House. The authorities said there was no foreigner among the injured.

The Kiev-Ovruci road was blocked. It’s also impossible to travel from Demoidov to Kiev. The border crossing point Korcheva–Krakovets, on the frontier with Poland, was closed. In Ivano-Frankivsk, activists occupied the police stations and local offices of the Security Service and the Prosecutor’s Office.

The opposition, supported by the protesters, demands holding early elections and returning to the Constitution of 2004.
