Independent candidate for MP makes accusations against Chisinau City Hall

The independent candidate running in the November 30 parliamentary elections Oleg Cernei accuses the Chisinau City Hall of inefficiently managing the financial resources that were to be invested in social apartments. He stated that the money was shared with judges, prosecutors and police colonels, IPN reports.

In a news conference, Oleg Cernei said that during several weeks he made approaches to the municipal Finance Division, asking providing the list of persons who got money instead of apartments, but received no answer. “I want to see who received apartments and if they indeed were purchased with the allocated money,” he stated.

According to the independent candidate, the City Hall functionaries who shared out the money received 5-10% of the sum. “These are called ‘transactions’ for distributing money between functionaries, judges and prosecutors,” he said. Oleg Cernei called on the Prosecutor General’s Office, the Ministry of the Interior, and the National Anticorruption Center to investigate this case.

Contacted by IPN, the deputy head of the Public Amenities Division Igor Munteanu said that Oleg Cernei is campaigning using false information. According to him, the public money was allocated to those entitled by court decisions, most of the recipients being employees of the Ministry of the Interior who were to receive apartments from the state. Munteanu added that the City Hall provided money, not apartments as this is a simpler and faster way.
