Igor Dodon: Ministers appointed today to posts lack required legitimacy

President Igor Dodon said the ministers who were appointed to posts today, January 10, lack the required legitimacy and will take up duties with the presumption of guilt for the way in which they were invested and also for the way in which they acted in the previous corrupt governments. Igor Dodon made the comment on his Facebook page, IPN reports.

“The Euro-unionist government understands that it can remain in power only by serious deviations from the democratic and rule of law principles. It is condemnable that these deviations committed by the government are supported by the Constitutional Court,” wrote the Head of State.

According to President Dodon, in another political and geopolitical context, the appointment of the new members of the Cabinet would have been justified by a massive protest by the people aimed at bringing to an end the defying actions of the government. Now that only several months remained until the parliamentary elections, the emotions and the wish to punish the Government at any cost should be avoided. Any social destabilization or revolt can cause victims and would cast doubt on the results of the even if early parliamentary elections.

However, the President considers the government should give up simulating the rule of law and discrediting the Constitution and the state institutions. “Both the Socialist opposition and the presidential administration reserve the right to make a call to mobilize hundreds of thousands of people so as to end these wrongdoings and constitutional abuses,” said Igor Dodon.

The seven new members of the Cabinet – two deputy prime ministers and five ministers – who were named following the reshuffle announced by the ruling alliance on December 19, were sworn in on January 10. The appointment decrees were signed the same day by Speaker of Parliament Andrian Candu, who holds office of President based on the January 2 judgment by which the Constitutional Court ascertained the circumstances that led to the suspension of President Igor Dodon.
