ICT regulator presents results achieved in 2015 and priorities for this year

The Administration Board of the National Regulatory Agency for Electronic Communications and Information Technology (ANRCETI) considers that its team in 2015 achieved remarkable results. In a press release, the Agency says these accomplishments laid the basis for the implementation of new projects this year, which are designed to encourage competition and to stimulate investments in the electronic communications infrastructure for the benefit of consumers of services, IPN reports.

ANRCETI director Grigore Varanita mentioned three actions that can be considered the most important ones by their impact on the market. These are: the completion of the third cycle of the analysis of relevant markets, carried out with the aim of remedying the competition situation on these; organization of the contest for providing licenses for using radio frequencies available in the 800, 900, 2100, 2600 and 3400 – 3800 Mhz, and adoption of the regulations needed for issuing licenses for using radio frequencies in the 470 – 694 MHz band for organizing and operating national digital television terrestrial multiplexes (A and B) and issuing of these licenses.

According to the Agency’s director, by providing these licenses the Agency created the conditions needed to ensure the transition from analog television to digital one.

Grigore Varanita said that the implementation of the law on access to private property and shared use of infrastructure associated to public electronic communications networks, which took effect on April 15, and of the law on postal communications that was recently passed by Parliament is the Agency’s top priority in 2016. “Both of these laws set out new duties for the ANRCETI for implementing them. These duties will necessitate involvement and big effort on the part of our team,” he stated.

The ANRCETI annually publishes reports on its work and on the development of the electronic communications market the previous year until April 30 in a move to inform the people about the measures taken to stimulate competition and to protect the rights of consumers of services and about the situation and development prospects of the given market.
