Even if the Chisinau administration increased the salaries of road sweepers, there are not many persons who want to fill this job. The needs are 19% satisfied.

Contacted by IPN, the head of the Public Amenities Division Petru Gontea said that 60% of the Division’s road sweepers have salaries of over 3,000 lei from February 1. Many road sweepers are elderly persons who are unable to work at the same pace as the other employees. Thus, they have a lower salary. The pays may be raised again in the future, but not all the sweepers are ready to work for eight hours a day.

The Public Amenities Division has 460 road sweepers, but at least 2,400 are needed to keep the yards of apartment buildings in Chisinau clean.
