Government supports Protocol to UN Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Cabinet approved the draft law to ratify the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities that was adopted on December 13, 2006. The document guarantees the promotion, protection and ensuring of the full realization, in conditions of equality, of all the basic human rights and freedoms by all the persons with disabilities and the promotion of the respect for their dignity, IPN reports.

As a party to this treaty, the Republic of Moldova will ensure the observance of the rights of persons with disabilities in all the areas. The Government will be able to take measures to fully include the rights stipulated in the Convention into the national legislation and policies. The document also stipulates a mechanism of individual complaints, the procedures for accepting, examining and analyzing cases of violation of the rights of persons with disabilities by the parties being regulated.

The Republic of Moldova ratified the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by law No. 166/2010. By the President’s decree, there was approved the signing of the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. So far the document was signed by 94 states.
