The Ministry of Education, together with higher teacher-training education institutions, started to introduce a new module for training teachers and educators in the inclusion of children with special needs, Minister of Education Maia Sandu said in the program “Good evening” on the national TV channel Moldova 1, IPN reports.
“We are taking steps, but it will take time to provide the schools and kindergartens with personnel specialized in working with these children. Actually, all the teachers and educators must know how to work with such children,” said Maia Sandu, adding that there is a shortage of such specialists now.
According to her, there are about 2,000 children with special needs who attend the kindergarten. In about 100 settlements, there are no kindergartens. By 9,000 lei is spent annually on every child of preschool age.
As to the problem of places in kindergartens, the minister said there are sufficient places in Chisinau, while the impression about the shortage is created for a number of reasons. On the one hand, many of the parents want their children to attend the kindergartens located near the house. On the other hand, the demand for certain institutions is higher. Also, the parents prefer the urban kindergartens even if there are enough places at kindergartens in villages.
