The State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “Nicolae Testemitanu” opened the first medical simulation center in Moldova. It was outfitted with specialized equipment that will enable the students to perform surgeries by simulation. The center is intended not only for students and doctors, but also for policemen, military men, firefighters and other specialists providing first aid, IPN reports.
Attending the event, Prime Minister Iurie Leanca expressed his optimism that the doctors will be better prepared and, consequently, the people will benefit from medical services of a higher quality. “I’m convinced that the results will become visible soon and the quality of medical training in our country will improve,” he stated.
According to EU Ambassador to Moldova Dirk Schuebel, the inauguration of the center points once again to the attention offered by the EU to Moldova. Considerable effort has been made over the last few years to modernize technologies and the process of training the Moldovan specialists.
Health Minister Andrei Usatyi said the virtual training, based on simulation, will improve the quality of the medical services. “The provision of medical services of a high quality is an important condition for achieving the main objectives of the Health Ministry,” he stated.
“Nicolae Testemitanu” University rector Ion Ababii said the medical simulation center will have five departments: emergency medical assistance, anesthesia and intensive care, mother and child health, family medicine, and minimum-invasive surgery.
The event was attended by the Secretary of State of the Federal Ministry of Health of Germany Thomas Ilka, who is in Moldova on an official visit during August 27-29.
The works to build the center started in 2010. The EU provided €1.4 million for the construction works and another €3 million for equipping the center.
