Family of child found in Botanica district of Chisinau identified

The parents of the two-year-old boy who was found in the courtyard of the Botanica Police Inspectorate on December 31 were identified. According to the authorities, the child’s mother presented herself at the Botanica Child Rights Protection Division in the morning of January 14, IPN reports.

Contacted by IPN, Ianos Jitari, specialist of the General Child Rights Protection Division, said the mother related that she found out where her child was from the police, after she was phoned by the local police inspector. Her former husband, with whom she lives in concubinage, took the boy out of the house when she was at work and left him near the Botanica Police Inspectorate.

The authorities are now looking for the man to determine why he exposed the child to risks. The boy is now at the Emergency Placement Service of the Division. “The child will stay there until the tutelage authority of the area where the mother has her domicile notifies us of the reintegration of the child into the family,” said Ianos Jitari.

The child’s mother is a citizen of Ukraine and was issued with a permit to stay in Moldova in 2001. She lives in Comrat, in the home of the child’s grandmother. According to Ianos Jitari, the woman intends to take the child from the Emergency Placement Service today and to go home, in Comrat. She faces a minimum fine of 400 lei for not fulfilling her parental obligations.
