Exhibition of works by famous painters opened in Chisinau

The National Museum of Arts of Moldova, with the support of the Ministry of Culture, the Romanian Cultural Institute “Mihai Eminescu” in Chisinau, the Chisinau City Hall, the Union of Plastic Artists and the Arts Center “Amprente”(“Prints”), staged an International Painting Symposium entitled “Orheiul Vechi” 2014, in Butuceni. On August 9, the National Museum of Arts houses an exhibition of works by plastic artists from Moldova, the UK, Poland, Romania, and Germany, who are participants in the symposium, IPN reports.

The exhibit represents a continuation of the 2009-2013 editions of the International Biennial of Painting and brings together such plastic artists and Gabriele Lockstaedt (Germany), Rick Copsey (the UK), Ewa Miazek (Poland),Vasile Tolan, Suzana Fantanariu and Florin Ciubotaru (Romania), Ghenadie Jalba, Simion Zamsa and Tudor Zbarnea (Moldova).

Each of the participant in the symposium used own stylistic instruments and individual approaches, being interested in the artistic experiment and in its promotion in the European artistic sphere, the Museum’s director Tudor Zbarnea has told IPN.

According to him, Rik Copsey considers himself a supporter of the traditions and innovations, who combines the traditional painting method with the new photographing techniques, while Gabriele Lockstaedt remains faithful to the easel art and promotes traditional techniques, combining the abstract form with gestualism.

Romanian painter Florin Ciubotaru, who practices equally sculpture and monumental painting, oscillates between the image of a non-sophisticated idea and the unpredictable dynamic of its plastic solutions, said Tudor Zbarnea.

He added that for Ghenadie Jalba, the message of the painting oscillates between the monumental symbolical views of the fresco, as a sign and meaning of history and the respect for tradition, associated with an impeccable professional rigor.

For his part, Ghenadie Jalba stated for IPN that Tudor Zbarnea is a passionate person looking for expressive resources of the image in the vast space between expressionism and symbolic abstraction.

The exhibit will continue until September 7. Between September 15 and October 15, it will be presented at the Museum of History and Ethnography in Soroca and will be then taken to the UAP Galleries in Iasi, Romania.
