The former head of the Botanica Probation Office and his ex-senior consultant were sentenced to five years in jail each for passive corruption. These are to also pay fines of 120,000 lei and will be unable to hold public posts during seven years, IPN reports.

In a communique, the Prosecutor General’s Office says that by the same sentence, the court put the ex-head on probation for a period of two years, while his inferior was handcuffed in the courtroom.

The functionaries were arrested by anticorruption prosecutors last spring, after they asked and received €200 from a person for issuing him with a certificate showing that he did community service. During the investigation, the suspects were fired.

The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
