European integration process must be made irreversible, Vlad Filat

The European integration process in Moldova must be made irreversible, considers ex-Premier Vlad Filat. In a public debate involving Bessarabian students, held at the Iasi University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza” on November 25, the chairman of the Liberal Democrat Party (PLDM) said the objective of joining the European Union is a vital one and was, in fact, predetermined for Moldova, IPN reports.

Vlad Filat said the people must be united in the European integration process, which should become irreversible. “The European integration process is a natural one for Moldova. We are part of this historical, cultural and geographical area and we have the capacity to achieve this objective,” he stated.

“This reformation process, which is vital for the country, is aimed at Europeanizing Moldova. It is first of all based on the sincerity of action. Those who take part in this process, but do not believe in it will never offer efficiency.”

The politician noted that the country currently faces challenges both at internal level and at foreign level. Russia’s interest in Moldova has increased particularly in the recent past and this country imposed a series of bans on the import of Moldovan products so as to create problems and to make the people vote in a different way, based on the existing dissatisfaction.

According to the leader of the PLDM, the November 30 elections are decisive for Moldova because the country’s course will be decided in them. He called on the young people to vote for the country’s European future.

The public debate entitled “Vlad Filat in a dialogue with young people on the European future” was staged by the Interdisciplinary Association “Pan Sofia”. The former Premier graduated from the Faculty of Law of the Iasi University “Alexandru Ioan Cuza”.
