Five persons were arrested on suspicion that they form part of a criminal group that trafficked in drugs. The police seized drugs that on the black market cost about 1 million lei, IPN reports, quoting the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases.

Besides 8 kg of marijuana, there was also seized a sum of US$ 10,000 that was allegedly earned from the criminal activity.

The person who transported the drugs and two more participants were caught red-handed. Another two members were identified and arrested in several houses. The five men are aged between 25 and 43.

The prosecutors asked for 30 days of arrest for them. The court partially accepted prosecutors’ requests. Three suspects were remanded in custody, while two of the men, who are purportedly the organizers and funders of the group, were placed under house arrest. The decision to institute house arrest was challenged. The Chisinau Appeals Court is to pronounce on this.
